Obituary

Lynn E. Bennett, 76 of Walton passed away Saturday morning, May 23, 2009 at home surrounded by his family, following a long illness.

Lynn was born in Sidney Center, on July 30, 1932 the son of the late Daniel W. and Hazel (Benedict) Bennett. While growing up in Sidney Center he was a 21 year member of The Lord's Area Choir, member of the Chapel Hill 4-H Club, a counselor at 4H Camp Shankatunk, and a member and former president of the Delaware County 4-H counsel. He was a 1950 graduate of Sidney Central School where he was a member of the 1950 "Warriors" undefeated (7-0) Tri Valley conference football champs. In 2000 the Sidney football team had a 50 year reunion where he and his team mates remembered their championship. On August 15, 1953 he married the former Beatrice Grotevant where they had a blessed union for over 55 years.

Lynn was employed as a driver for Breakstones for 25 years, a driving instructor for the western BOCES for 17 years, a member of Walton Fire Dept # 5, a charter member of Walton EMS, former member of the Walton Mountain Sportsmen Club, member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 693 retirement Club.

Lynn is survived by his loving family, his wife, Bea, two sons, Dennis (Judy) Bennett of Downsville, Jerry (Mary Ann) Bennett; Newtown, Pennsylvania; one sister: Avis Warren)Lambrecht, of Sidney Center, NY; two brothers; Lyle (Nancy) Bennett, Ivan (Carol) Bennett, both of Sidney Center; one grandson, Daniel (Tiffany) Bennett; one granddaughter , Erica L. Bennett both of Downsville, a great grandson, Brodie Bennett, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave., Walton; with the Rev. Mark Del Giudice, officiating.There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to either the First United Methodist Church, c/o Trustees for Stained Glass Window Fund, 101 North St.
