Obituary

Madaline E. Weirs, 80 of Trout Creek passed away Monday evening, February 23, 2009 in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.

Madaline was born in Granton on December 5, 1928 the daughter of June and Letha (Vanderlip) Schriver. She was a graduate of Deposit High School, class of 1946. On April 22, 1950 she married Richard A. Weirs. He died on August 30, 1987.

Madaline was employed for many years by the Friendly Tavern and later at Huff's in Trout Creek. She was a charter member of the Trout Creek Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and EMS, member and past president of the Delaware County Ladies Auxiliary, Trout Creek Community Church, and the "Trout Creek Girls". Madaline enjoyed reading,and feeding and watching the birds in her backyard. She also enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards. She spent much time selecting just the "right" card for the "right" person. Her favorite hobby was her family, taking care of her kids and grandkids.

Madaline is survived by her loving family, 4 daughters, JoAnn (James Amato) Lacey, Downsville; Lynda (Richard) Finch, Walton, Gail (Dan) Furman, Walton, Christina (Randy) McLaughlin, Sidney Center; 1 son, Gary (Michelle) Weirs, McKenzie, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, Jeffery, Tina, Stacey, Ricky, Michelle, Melissa, Patricia, Robbie, Garrett, Heather, Kyle, 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Duane (Sheila) Schriver, Cleveland, TN; 1 sister, Joyce Thomas, Gramsville, NY; uncle, Harry Vanderlip, Unadilla; special father in law, Homer Batsford, Cortlandt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Schriver.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the Trout Creek Community Church, with the Rev. David Gatje, officiating. Interment will be in Walton Cemetery, in the spring. Family and friends are invited to a gathering following the service at the Trout Creek Fire House.
