Margaret Cobane, 83, passed away at her home in Walton on February 14, 2026.

Margaret Beardslee was born on May 8, 1942, in Walton, NY to the late Carl Beardslee Jr. and Frances Grotevant. She lived in several places after graduating from Walton Central School in 1961 but always considered Walton to be home. Margaret married the love of her life, Wayne Cobane, in 1963 and they were together until his passing in 2019.

Margaret is survived by her children David (Julie) Cobane, Tim (Nancy) Cobane, Kelly (Greg) Kole, and Tom (Shannon) Cobane. Margaret was a devoted grandmother to Adrianna, Sara, Patrick, Ross, Russell, Ryan, Stephanie, and Rachel. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Tamra and Vana, and several step-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life and her greatest joy. She is also survived by her siblings Inda Beers and Bert (Judy) Beardslee, as well as her sister-in-law Louise Beardslee and daughter-in-law Cindy Cobane and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Wayne Cobane, her son John Cobane and brothers Bob, Douglas, and Fred, and brother-in-law Victor Beers.

Margaret held many jobs throughout her life, but the one she enjoyed the most was caring for children. She took care of more than 100 children over the years and formed lasting bonds with families in the community.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking, reading, and playing card games. She loved to help others with their artistic projects and camping with family when her health allowed. She will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and friends.

Calling Hours will be held at Courtney Funeral Home located at 25 Townsend St., in Walton, NY on Saturday February 21, 2026, 11am-1pm, with a service at 1pm with Pastor Bob Wilkie officiating.

Burial will take place at the Hamden Cemetery in the spring, where she will rest beside her beloved husband.
