Obituary

WALTON — Margaret Louise Haywood better known as Peggy (née O'Byrne), of Walton, originally from Hawthorne, New Jersey, passed away on December 5, 2025, at Wilson Hospital in Binghamton, surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Robert and Eleanor O'Byrne. She married her husband, James Haywood, and together they carried on the family traditions she cherished so deeply.

A dedicated homemaker, Margaret centered her life around caring for others. She was happiest when her home was full—hosting holiday gatherings, cooking, and creating a warm space where everyone felt welcome and loved. She cherished time spent at the beach, especially Point Pleasant NJ, and never turned down an opportunity to enjoy crab legs with those she loved.

Peggy, was gifted with her hands and her heart. She loved crocheting, knitting, and making thoughtful handmade items for family and friends. She held fast to family traditions, serving as the family archivist—the one who remembered every story, every milestone, and every birthday. She never missed sending holiday, birthday, or anniversary cards, always making those around her feel seen, remembered, and special. She was, in every sense, the glue that held the family together.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her son Robert J. Haywood and his wife, Christina; and her son Raymond P. Haywood. She is also survived by her grandchildren — Alyna C. Haywood, Tyler R. M. Haywood and his wife, Betty, Trystan R. E. Haywood, and Aylan K. Haywood — each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was predeceased by her son, Michael P. Haywood, and her brother, Emmitt O'Byrne

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday December 13, 2025, at 1pm at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 25 Benton Ave., Walton, NY.
