Obituary

Margaret  "Peg" Torma, 85, a longtime resident of Walton, passed away unexpectedly early  Saturday morning, September 8, 2018 at Delaware Valley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Peg was born on January 29, 1933 in New York City, the daughter of the late Michael and Katie (Ferencko) Sankosky.  She graduated Salutatorian of her class from Andes Central School.   She was a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing, in New York City where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree.

Peg was employed as a staff nurse and then as OR Supervisor at Delaware Valley Hospital for 40 years.  She took pride in her nursing skills and abilities; and was honored to be awarded the Employee of the Quarter at DVH.  She enjoyed her second family of co-workers.  Peg joined the DVH Volunteers after retirement and continued to stay active working in the Gift Shop.

Peg was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.  She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Walton Fire Department and the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society.   She took pleasure in watching the birds and planting flowers.  Peg loved attending the Andes Central School Class Reunions and St. Vincent's School of Nursing Reunions; remaining  in close contact with her classmates.

Peg will be remembered as a kind and helpful soul with a contagious smile who enjoyed visiting with people, going to garage sales, taking senior citizen trips and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.   She was very proud of being a single mother who had successfully raised three daughters.   Peg loved Life and doing things with her girls.  Her special moments were attending dog shows with Kathy, Bob and their Irish Setters; helping Mary and Richard at their craft shows; and spending as much time as she could with Liz, Carl and her adorable granddaughters.  She loved her sons-in-laws as her own "sons".

Peg is survived by her daughters, aka "Peg's Girls", Mary Torma-Kelly and Richard Kelly, Kathy and Bob Brown, both of Walton; Elizabeth Galatioto, and granddaughters, Margaret and Mary, all of Binghamton; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many special friends including, Charlotte and Ginny.  Peg was predeceased by a grandson, Francis Galatioto, brother, John Sankosky, sister, Helen Dropp and son-in-law, Carl J. Galatioto.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday evening, September 14, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15 at Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17-25 Benton Avenue, Walton, with the Rev Edward Golding,  officiating.  Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.  Reception to follow at the Walton Fire Hall, 59-61 West St, Walton. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton
