It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark A. Barnes, 63, of Walton NY on December 30, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Walton, NY. Born on June 17, 1962, Mark was a son of Donald R. Barnes and Sharon L. Barnes (Sherman) and a cherished brother to Serena Tompkins. He spent his life embracing the beauty of the world around him, finding joy in the simple pleasures of nature.
Mark was known for his unwavering spirit and his ability to follow the beat of his own drum. Friends and family knew him as a generous and giving soul, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh, often displaying his unique sense of humor. Mark had a special bond with his cat, Sebastian, who was a constant companion in his life. Mark enjoyed riding on back roads with Billy Whiteside, he loved nature and animals.
One of Mark's greatest passions was Halloween, a holiday he celebrated with boundless enthusiasm all year round. This love for Halloween was a cherished connection he shared with his mother, creating memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mark is survived by his beloved family, his sister, Serena (Jim) Tompkins of Walton, his nephews; Ethan (Amanda) Tompkins, Dustin (Corrine) Tompkins, Sheena (Matt) Tompkins, Matthew (Jessica) Barnes, Nicholas (Brandi) Barnes, Jared Barnes of Delhi, NY, his nieces; Angela Mitchell, Stephanie Mitchell, and Thomas (Brianna) Mitchell. Mark is also survived by his special friend Cie Cie and his beloved cat Sebastian, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Sharon Barnes, and his brother Donald K. Barnes.
Calling hours for Mark will be held on Friday January 9, 2026 from 2pm-4pm at the Courtney Funeral Home located at 25 Townsend St Walton NY 13856.
Mark A. Barnes will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to guide us, always reminding us to appreciate the little things in life and to embrace our individuality.
