Martha H. Peaster, 88, of East Branch, formerly of Walton, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, following a long illness.
Martha was born in Walton on August 27, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Aikens) Hume. She was a graduate of Delaware Academy, class of 1945 On May 6, 1951 she married Robert "Doug" Peaster at the Hamden Presbyterian Church.
Martha worked as a Secretary for Walton Central School for many years. Before that, she worked for Crawford Brothers Feed Mill. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She and Doug owned and operated the Stockton Avenue Market in Walton for several years. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts, ceramics, auctions, baking breads, going on bus trips and visiting the Amish Country. Martha will also be remembered for her love of her family and her sense of humor.
Martha is survived by her loving family, her children, John (Anna) Peaster of Walton; Steven (Lisa) Peaster of Downsville; grandchildren, Alec Peaster and his fiancé Kelly of Tampa, FL, Lyle Peaster of Walton, Derrick and Julie Peaster of Nashua, NH , Katelyn Peaster of Downsville, great grandchild, Jordan Peaster, also of Nashua, NH, sister and brother in law, Betsy and John Elderkin of Walton; care provider, Lori and Keith Nelson and family of East Branch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also, special friend, Florence Seeley and special pet, Chloe.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Hume, Her husband Robert (Doug) Peaster, her brothers in law and sisters in law Harold (Pete) and Grace Peaster of Walton, Max Peaster of Walton, Edwin and Lois Peaster of Oil City, PA, Johnny and Virginia (Ginny) Hamilton and Johnny's second wife Wanda of Monroe, LA.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 11AM to 1PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held at 1PM with Rev. R. L. Donahue, officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
