Obituary

Mary M. Tweedie, 77, of Walton, passed away suddenly on Monday morning, May 19, 2008 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Mrs. Tweedie was born in the town of Franklin on March 22, 1931, the daughter of the late Michael and Frieda (Kuppens) Meyer.

Mary attended St. Peter's Hospital, School of Nursing in Albany. Upon her graduation she began working as a Registered Nurse. Always working the night shift, she was employed by Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, the former Smith Nursing Home in Walton and retiring from O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Mrs. Tweedie married James A. Tweedie on April 18, 1953 at St. John the Baptist Church in Walton. Besides working as a nurse and raising her children she helped James operate the family dairy farm on Dunk Hill for over 45 years until their retirement.

Mary had served on the Walton School Board for several terms. She also was an avid gardener and took great pride in her flowers and vegetables.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James A. Tweedie of Walton; two daughters, Nancy (Paul) Schulkind of Stamford, CT and Judy (William) Rubino of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Luis Roldan of Brooklyn and Annette Roldan of Binghamton; two sisters, Betty Zemanick of Binghamton and Margaret Pawlik of Southold, Long Island; three brothers, John Meyer of Franklin, Jerry Meyer of San Jose, CA and George Meyer of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on the family from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday morning, May 23, 2008 at Saint John The Baptist Church, Benton Avenue, Walton with the Reverend Matthew Frisoni celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Walton Cemetery, Walton.
