Obituary

Marylyn L. Tompkins, 68, a long time resident of Downsville, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2008 in Delaware Valley Hospital.

Marylyn was born in Margaretville on October 4, 1939 the daughter of the late John and Eleanor George Gorsch. She was a graduate of Andes High School. On December 21, 1957 she married Richard A. Tompkins Sr. at Colchester. She worked as a clerk at Sue Ellen's Country Market, and waitressed at The Schoolhouse Inn, Downsville.

Marylyn was a former girl scout leader, a Bible Study Teacher, an election board worker and a member of the Republican committee, receiving the "Republican of the Year Award", and a member of the Colchester Community Church. Marylyn loved canning and making her own jellies and jams, gardening, jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles, snowman collector, and taking care of her family.

She is survived by her husband: Richard, two daughters: Connie (Alan) Watson , Linda (Richard) Walley both of Downsville, two sons: Douglas Tompkins of Downsville, NY, Richard (Jennifer) Tompkins Jr. of Somerspoint, NJ; 10 grandchildren, Chelsea & Devin Dunphy, Kylie, Kacie, Rudie Walley, Branden, Kourtney, Cameren, Kassidy, Faith Tompkins; 1 great-grandchild, Kaiden Vernold, three brothers, Bernard "Skip" Gorsch of Oxnard, California, Richard (Barbara) Gorsch of Vernon Center, NY, James (Donna) Gorsch of Delhi, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Tompkins, 1 brother, Douglas Gorsch, and her stepdad, Ralph Shaver.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, with the Pastor Paul Cicio, officiating. Interment will be in Paige Cemetery. In lieu of calling hours a celebration of Marylyn's life will be held following the services at the Downsville Legion Hall, Back River Rd., Downsville, where her family will gather.
