Matthew C. Culligan, 48, of Walton, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Wilson Memorial Hospital of Johnson City, following a short illness.

Matt was born on December 9, 1968 in Long Beach, NY, the son of the late William J. and Philomenia (Murray) Culligan. On July 22, 1989 he married the former Esther McDermott, at Rockaway Beach. He owned and operated Matt Culligan Contracting of Walton. He enjoyed transforming kitchens and baths from dreams to reality. He also worked for his family as a tree surgeon in his younger days.

Matt enjoyed target practicing, camping, swimming, and golfing. He also enjoyed all types of video games.

Matt is survived by his wife, Esther, brothers, john Culligan, Walton; Michael Culligan, Pemberton, NJ; Robert (Patricia) Culligan, Inwood, Ny; and Raymond Culligan, Pemberton, NJ; brother and sister-in-laws, Jamie McDermott, Norwich, NY; Roseann Kiesling, TN; Frankie (Christine) Kiesling, Rockaway Beach; and Jennifer Rivera, Walton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.. Matt was predeceased by a brother, William Culligan.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 am at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17-25 Benton Avenue, Walton, NY with the Rev Edward Golding, officiating.
