Maurice F. " Sonny" Cetta, 85 of Walton, passed away Monday evening June 28, 2004, at Wilson Hospital Johnson City, after a short illness.
Sonny was born March 30, 1919 in New York City the son of the late Frank and Madeline Launt Cetta, He moved to Walton as a young child and graduated from Walton High School class of 1938. He served his country during WW II in the Pacific Theatre with the Army National Guard 27th Division, Company F from Walton, receiving the Bronze Star. Sonny was a respected businessman, first working in then owning the family business, Cetta Brothers Shoe Store, then the Bean Bro. Bowling Pin Co, and later owning the Homestead Restaurant, in Colliersville. Upon retirement he wintered in Florida and worked as an appraiser for the Broward County Florida, Board of Assesors. On April 24, 1949 he married the former Betty DuMond.
Sonny was active in the community being a life long member of Christ Church, Walton, serving in the vestry, senior warden, and usher in his later years, Life member of the American Legion, VFW, and Walton Veterans Club, all of Walton, and a member of the Walton Kwanis Club, and Walton Chamber of Commerce. Sonny was also a loyal New York Yankee fan.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty Cetta, 5 nephews, 1 niece, many special cousins, who include Pat and Dolly Liguori. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Clara Wagner, and Dolly Benedict.
A mass will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Christ Church, 41 Gardiner Place Walton, with the Rev. Suzanne Cole, rector officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
