Merlyn D. Wood, 70, of Walton went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2012 following a long illness.

Merlyn was born on December 12, 1941 in Walton the son of the late Millard M. and Agnes (Fitch) Wood. He was a graduate of Walton High School, class of 1961. On August 31, 1963 he married the former Beverly Gray in Downsville.

Merlyn proudly served in the Navy Reserves. He worked many years in the Walton Foundry and later for S.J. Bailey's where he was hardware manager. He loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed watching football, visiting and trading stories with his friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 49 years, Beverly, his sons, David Wood of Mohawk; Duane Wood of Walton; his daughter, Brenda (Shawn) Newvine of Greene; his 4 grandsons, Alex Wood of Virginia; Nathan Wood of Meredith; Nicholas and Benjamin Newvine of Greene; his brothers, Carl (Gail) Wood of Indiana; George (Audrey) Wood of Hamden; Ray (Arlene) Wood of Sidney, Steve (Patty) Wood of Walton; his sisters, Irene Conklin of Catskill; Carol Nichols of Bloomville; his sister and brother in law, Joyce and John Campbell of Virginia; and several nieces nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Alan.

A graveside service will be held in Walton Cemetery on June 26, 2012 at 11AM.
