Michael John
Laidlaw
May 13, 1956 — Jul 16, 2026
Kirkwood, New York
It's with peace in our hearts that we announce the passing of Michael John Laidlaw, 70, who died suddenly on Thursday, July 16, 2026; at his home in Kirkwood, New York. Mike was born on May 13th, 1956, at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi, New York. His parents are the late John (Jack) Laidlaw and Patricia Hoerning Laidlaw.
Mike’s journey took him from Delhi to Delancey, to Cannonsville, to Walton and finally to Kirkwood. When we finally settled in Walton, this became a place where one could raise a family in safety. During the summer months there could be upwards of twenty-five neighborhood kids in our backyard, we played Cops and Robbers, 1-2-3 Not It, Red Light Green Light, Hide & Seek, Truth or Dare, Tag, Kick Ball, Dodge Ball, Red Rover Red Rover and we rode our bikes everywhere. Mike played baseball at Lincoln Field and swam in the public pool. He was member of the Cross-Country team in high school and graduated in 1974. His most favorite thing to do was spending time at Camp. Mike was an avid hunter and spent every deer season at Camp. If he was not at home, this is where he would most likely be. After the death of his father, he became the caretaker of Camp with assistance from his brothers and sisters. He would fix what was broken and did general upkeep needed to keep Camp in good working condition for when family would come to visit or stay for a weekend. He will always be remembered for his smile and sense of humor. He was constantly flirting and telling jokes to any female that was in his path but never failed to bring a smile. He was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Giants. He was a Life Scout in Troop 87 sponsored by St John’s Catholic Church. Mike was a member of St Peter’s Church in Binghamton, New York. Mike had worked for the City of Binghamton Parks and Recreation for 40 years. He was a super brother and would give you the shirt off his back. He will be sorely missed.
Mike is survived by his brothers Patrick (Alex) Laidlaw, John (Song) Laidlaw, Bill (Michelle) Laidlaw; sisters Sue Doig, Katie (Tim) Beyrer and Mary Laidlaw. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and was a great uncle; Kelly Laidlaw, Katie (Andres) Gonzales, Gracie Doig; Carmine (Rylan) Ramazio, John (Cate) Laidlaw, Scott (Mirelle) Laidlaw, David (Heather) Doig, Chris (Jennifer) Doig and the grands Nova Doig, Isobel Doig, Nora Doig, Isla Doig and Jackson Laidlaw.
A Graveside Service will be held privately at the Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, New York.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend St, Walton NY.
