Obituary

Millicent G. Combs entered into rest in her residence in York, Pa. on Saturday, June 25.

"Millie" was born to Andrew G. Gobel and Mildred I. Gobel in Oneonta, N.Y.

Upon graduation from Oneonta High School, she began her work at Bresee's Department Store where she was a department head for 14 years and a model for their fashion shows.

She was married to Curtis W. Combs for 54 years until his death in 2006. While Curt served in the Air Force (stationed at Logan Air Force Base), he and his bride lived in Cambridge, Mass. At that time, Millie worked at Harvard Square College Bookstore. After Curt's service in the Air Force was over, the Combs moved to Walton, NY and raised a family with the birth of daughter, Diane.

Millie always enjoyed singing in community and church choirs. She joined the Little Theatre Group, the Victory Players and Delaware River Stage Company, where she sang in the chorus. Millie liked tole and theorem painting and serving as a Delaware County election inspector for 50 years.

More than anything, Millie dearly loved her family. For the past three years, Millie has been living in York, Pa. with her surviving daughter, Diane C. Langford and Diane's husband, Mike. "Grammie" will be missed by grandsons Tim Langford (and his wife Laura), Ben Langford and Dan Langford. She shared many wonderful moments with great-granddaughters Mellie Langford and Abby Langford.

Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by sisters Adah Byam, Dorothy Gobel, Beatrice Simmons, Nedra Sobol and brother Donald Gobel. She is survived by sisters Gladys Quinn and Hilda Transue, brother Harold Gobel and many nieces and nephews.

She has been prayerfully upheld by her friends at Messiah United Methodist Church in York, PA.

There will be a visitation on July 6, 2011 from 12PM until 1PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, N.Y. A memorial service will follow at 1 PM at the funeral home with son-in-law, the Rev. W. Michael Langford officiating. A private burial will be at Walton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
