Milton J. Alger, 87, lifetime resident of Walton passed away early Friday morning, March 10, 2017 at Albany Medical Center, following a short illness.

Milt was born on January 29, 1930 in Sidney Center, the son of the late Paul L. and Jennie (Babcock) Alger. He married the former LaVerna Patterson on November 26, 1949 in Walton. She died on February 29, 2012. He was employed for many years first as a printer and later as the printing supervisor for The Reporter Co. Prior to his employment at The Reporter he worked at the Republican Express in Delhi.

Milt's true calling was growing flowers at his greenhouse and sold cut flowers wholesale and retail. Milt loved visiting with people and at any outing his trip was lengthened by all the people he ran into along the way. A simple trip to the store could take hours, with all the friends he ran into. Milt and Laverna enjoyed many trips to the Botanical Gardens in Rochester and Buffalo. He also loved taking his family to see new things and meet new people. He will be remembered by his outgoing personality and dry sense of humor.

Milt is survived by his loving family, two daughters: Pat Aitken and Susan (Dale) Stephens of Walton; five sons: Mike Alger of Mt Upton, NY, David (Coral) Alger, Mark (Robin) Alger; Douglas Alger, and Timothy Alger all of Walton; his grandchildren, Steven, Stacey (Barry), Jason (Candace), Jenny Lynn (Thomas), Jeffrey (Danielle), Dereck, Anthony, Rebecca (Michael), DJ (Ashlee), Melissa, (Howie) and Jessie; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Bailey, Scarlet, Kylie, Meadow, Mackenzie, Gabe, Mason, Blaze, Faith, Kelton, Natalie, Christian and Grace. He is also survived by a sister, Thelma (Don) Cass, Olcott; sister-in-law, Ginny LaRose, NC; special nephews and niece, Anna and Jim Alger Daniel LaRose, cousins, Guy and Vicki Place and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Milt was predeceased by a brother, Paul Alger, a sister, Irene Pratt and son-in-law, Jerry Aitken on November 30, 2016.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 PM at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave., Walton, with Pastor Robert Wilkie, officiating. Burial will be held privately at Walton Cemetery. Following the service at the church, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at the Harby Center, next door to the Sanctuary.
