Obituary

Milton R. Scherer, 82, of Walton passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare Facility, Cooperstown.

Milton was born on Feb. 11, 1922, in Milanville, Pa., the son of John and Myrtle (Conklin) Scherer.

He married Leona Clark on Sept. 30, 1944, in Walton. She predeceased him on March 12, 1976.

He was a feed salesman for Camp Milling Company, Walton, owner of Scherer Insurance Agency, Walton, owner of C.C. Scutt Insurance Agency, Hancock.

He was a United States Army Corps World War II veteran. He was wounded by a machine gun and captured by the Germans at Bizerte, Tunisia, and a few days later was rescued by the British First Army on May 9, 1943.

He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM. He was an avid Gene Autry fan. He owned a NYSMHA Champion "Show-Off's Appledon" and was very active in showing his horse in many horseshows.

Milton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Sandra Bartholomew, Hancock; two grandsons, Clark Biedekapp, Hancock, and Mark and Donna Biedekapp, Smithfield, N.C.; one granddaughter, Brenda and Russell Thurston, Trout Creek; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Crossman, Joshua Biedekapp and Jason Biedekapp; two great-great-grandchildren, Caleb Crossman and Joseph Crossman Jr.; two sisters, Marjorie Wormuth and Patricia Peterson; and five brothers, Melvin, Victor, Dean, Norman and Harold.

He was predeceased by one brother, Bernard; and one sister, Martha.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, from the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock, with funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, Hancock, with the Rev. Jeff Hale, Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walton Rescue Squad, American Heart Association or the American Legion Post 209, Lakewood, PA.

Arrangements are by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.
