Nicholas Arcuri, 82, of Trout Creek passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in Secaucus, NJ, following a long illness.
Nick was born on October 19, 1929 in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Dominick and Philomena (Miele) Arcuri. In 1948 he proudly served his country by enlisting in the Army where he served with the 7th Infantry with distinction in Korea, earning the Infantry Badge. On September 12, 1982 he married the former Joan Haase in North Bergen, NJ. She died on November 1, 2006. Nick was the business agent of Local 734, Clifton, NJ. He was a member of the VFW Guntown Post # 1554 in Trout Creek, NY.
Nick was also a noted professional welterweight boxer having decisioned the great Joe Micelli with his first loss. Nick's record as a pro was 13-3. In an article by Ron Lipton he is quoted; "they don't come any tougher than Nick and Joe Micelli, and they don't come any nicer either". According to Lipton, Nick also played second base for the Saint Louis Browns in Tarboro, NC for one year and the Cleveland Indians for another year in Drummerville, Canada.
Nick loved his family, gardening and the great outdoors.
Nick is survived by his loving family, his daughter, Linda (Tom) Masselli of North Carolina; his son, Dominic Arcuri of Secaucus, New Jersey; his grandson, Dominic Robert, stepchildren, George L. ( Wilma) Dillon of Carteret, NJ; John R. "Jack" (Cheryl) Dillon, North Bergen, NJ; Denise Hoehl, Masonville, 5 stepgrandchildren, Tina, Michael, Amanda, Shannon, Katie, 4 stepgreat grandchildren, Tyler James, Connor Robert, Juan Carlos "JC", and Jayden;, and his sister, Theresa (Edward) Correa of South Carolina. He was predeceased by his first wife the former, Antoinette Marciano, a son Nicholas Arcuri and a stepson, Matt Dillon.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 10 AM to 12 noon at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where a Prayer Service will be held at noon with the Rev. Edward J. Golding, officiating. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery, Trout Creek with full military honors.Memorial contributions in Nick's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at JDRF.org
