Obituary

Norma L Vigus, 83, formerly of Walton passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Village at Morrison Cove in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania.

Norma was born on May 25, 1932 in Kingston, NY, the daughter of the late Floyd L and Gertrude Mildred (Earle) Wright. She was a graduate of Roscoe High School, class of 1951. She later attended SUNY Delhi, majoring in Secretarial Science. She was employed for many years at the Walton Bakery. Norma was a long time member of the First Congregational Church, and its choir, Walton; past master of the Walton Grange, and of the state and county chapters of the Pomona Grange, member and past secretary of the Walton Senior Citizens Club, and the Walton Fireman's Auxiliary and a volunteer at Delaware Valley Hospital.

Norma will best be remembered as a poet. She didn't start writing poetry until she was 35. She then wrote many poems and was inducted into the International Society of Poets, and also published a collection by the Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum. Her poems have been used in greeting cards and assorted collections as well as the two volume set of "Come Sit Awhile". Norma also wrote lyrics for songs and a few children's stories. She also wrote and performed a patriotic poem titled "'I'm Proud", for a Walton Little Theatre production.

Norma will be remembered as a loving friend who gave freely of her time and talents. She enjoyed keeping busy and working hard for the sake of others.

Norma is survived by her son, William and wife Diane Vigus, Cuba, NY; 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Bill O'Dell.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday evening, March 22, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 23 at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton, NY with Dr. Janet Schwengber, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Norma's memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, Walton, the Walton Fire Deparment or the Walton Grange.
