Norman R. Scherer, 82 of Walton, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a long illness.
Norm was born in Milanville, Pennsylvania on March 31, 1926, the son of the late John and Myrtle (Conklin) Scherer. He married the former Audrey Brazee on July 17, 1949 in Walton. Norm worked many years as a truck driver for the feed mills of Walton. He worked first at Crawford's Feed Mill and later at Camp Milling. Norm proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He received the Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Club Royale Oasis, the American Legion and the Walton Fire Department for many years.
Norm always put other peoples' needs before his, taking care of the many was what he enjoyed most. He could often be found mowing or snowblowing a friends yard. Norm was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed watching old Western movies.
Norm is survived by his wife, Audrey, two daughters, Constance (Zook) Swartwout, Denise (John) Nagel both of Walton; one son, Randy (Nancy) Scherer of Chesapeake, Virginia; 2 Sisters, Marge Wormuth, Walton, Pat Petersen of Indiana, brothers, Melvin (Jane) Scherer of North Carolina, Dean (Thelma) Scherer, Victor (Joyce) Scherer, Lockport, NY, grandchildren, Chris and Casey, Megan and Jonathan, Chad and Dawn, Nate and Amanda and Nicole, great grandchildren, Chad Jr., Caitlyn, Brayden, Morgan and Dylan, several nieces, nephews and cousins, sister- in-laws, Iona Scherer, Florida; Rotha Scherer, Sidney Center; He was predeceased by three brothers, Milton, Harold, and Bernard and one sister, Martha.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held on Saturday morning at 11 AM with the Rev. Mark Del Giudice, officiating.
