Obituary

Paul E. Lathan, 78, of Hamden passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Albany Medical Center in Albany.

Paul was born on October 27, 1935 in Hamden, the son of the late Doug and Clara (Craig) Lathan. On October 28, 1956 he married the former Barbara Allen in the Walton Baptist Church parsonage.

Paul proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1957. He was the owner and broker of Paul E. Lathan Real Estate in Hamden. He was also a Dairy Farmer, and he owned and operated the Valley View in Hamden, as well as an ornamental concrete business.

Paul enjoyed feeding the birds, watching the deer in his back yard, traveling cross country, watching sports, and he was an avid reader.

Paul is survived by his loving family, his wife Barbara, his daughter, Ann Lathan Kerzner and David of Wallkill; his grandson whom he adored, Jonas Kerzner of Wallkill; his sisters, Betty and Bob MacGibbon of Walton; Lillian Rifenbury of Rochester; his mother in law, Mary Allen of Sidney Center; his brothers and sisters in law, Floyd and Linda Allen of Sidney Center, Howard and Pat Allen of Oneida, NY; Kathy Allen of Scotia, Virginia and Charles O'Dell of Walton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his father in law, Ernest Allen, and brother in law, Reginald Allen.

A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held in Walton Cemetery in the spring at a time and date to be announced. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
