Peter E. Iorio, 93, of Walton passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, NY.
Peter was born on April 12, 1921 in Jamacia, Queens, the son of Frank and Valentine Iorio. On February 24, 1946 he married the former Mildred Joicy in Queens.
Peter proudly served his country in the US Army from 1943 to 1945. He fought in the invasion at Normandy in June, 1944 and later in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and received the purple heart. He enjoyed playing BINGO and going to the movies, gardening and spending time with his granddaughter, Sara. He loved his cats and dogs. He cut and split wood for his stove until he was 85.
Peter is survived by his loving family, his wife of 68 years , Mildred, his daughter, Alice and George Pliauplis of Walton; his granddaughter, Sara, his brother in law, Frank (Doris) Joicy of Orlando, FL; his niece, Joan Caputo of Walton; his nephews, Frank and Robert Joicy of Orlando, FL.
Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 3 to 5 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11 AM at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 25 Benton Avenue, Walton with the Rev. Chris Welch, officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Saint John the Baptist Church or Heart of the Catskills, P. O. Box 88, Delhi, New York 13753.
