It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Philip R. Smith, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who departed this life on May 14, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on January 12, 1938, in Trout Creek, NY,  to his parents; Jesse Smith, and Rena Wayman. Philip was a man of many passions and a steadfast presence in the lives of those he cherished.

Philip proudly served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, he was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ where he was a cook.

Philip grew up on his family farm in Trout Creek, where he developed a deep love for nature and the outdoors. His dedication to his craft as a stone cutter led him to work in the bluestone industry, where he honed his skills since his teenage years. He spent 11 years at Breakstone in Walton, NY, but was primarily self-employed, delighting in the artistry of his work.

Throughout his life, Philip enjoyed a variety of pastimes that brought him joy and fulfillment. He was an avid bowler and golfer, relished reading, and found serenity in fishing. He took pleasure in gardening and cherished the companionship of his beloved dogs. Philip was a private man who valued his time alone and the simple pleasures life offered.

In his later years, he enjoyed spending winters with his daughter, Renne, and son-in-law in the Carolinas, and treasured visits with his brother, Larry, in Florida. His love for family always shone through, and he will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Betty Smith of 66 years, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
