Raymond A. Place, 86, a resident of Fleischmanns for the last 5 years and a longtime resident of Marvin Hollow, Walton, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012 at Fox Hospital of Oneonta, following a long illness.

Ray was born on May 28, 1926 in Downsville, the son of the late Ray and Edith (Joslin) Place Jr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On February 22, 1948 he married the former Edith M. Samuelson in Margaretville, New York. She predeceased him on May 4, 2000. He was employed for many years at Breakstone/ Kraft Foods, Walton. He was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving as a greeter and usher for many years.

Ray is survived by 2 daughters, Ellen (Steven) Craft, Fleischmans; and Susan (Calvin) Haney, Wells Bridge; a brother, Robert (Jeanne) Place, Carthage; and 2 grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Phoenix and 4 great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Garett, Kiara, and Deacon Ray. Ray was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Place and a sister, Dorothy Winner.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
