Richard J. Bouw, 60 a lifelong resident of Downsville, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, May 31, 2013, and gladly ran into the arms of our Lord and Savior.

Dick was born on September 26, 1952 in Margaretville, the son of Albert and Joyce (Scudder) Bouw. He was a graduate of Downsville Central School, class of 1972. He was a member of the Downville American Legion, James S. Moore, Post # 167.

Dick was a master gardener who loved growing vegetables and flowers in his yard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and of course, his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a generous, kind nature who was loved by all who knew him. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He was employed by Breakstone's, Walton for over 30 years.

Dick is survived by his loving family, his mother, Joyce of Walton, his daughter, Robin (Derick )Hodges of Harpursville; his grandchildren, Owen Bouw, Paige and Liam Hodges, his brothers, William (Chantal)Bouw of New Jersey; Albert (Kathy) Bouw of Maryland; Robert (Jean) Bouw of Michigan; his sisters, Virgina (Jim) Davis of Downsville; Tina (Gordon) Szewczyk of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Albert Bouw.

A graveside service, with full military honors will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Paige Cemetery, Downsville, with Pastor Ed Lowell, officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Herb Bryant, funeral director at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.
