Richard F. Core, 75 of Walton, passed away early Monday morning in the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, after a long illness.

Dick was born in Dallas, Texas on May 19, 1932, the son of the late Ralph and Cornelia (Mission) Core. On June 29, 1958 he married the former Marilyn Gorman at West Hempstead, NY. He proudly served his country in the U S. Army. Dick was employed 20 years as a Police Officer with the Rockville Center, Long Island, Police Dept. Later he taught shop at Franklin Central School and at the Oneonta Job Corps. as a vocation specialist teacher. He was also a gifted cabinet maker who won awards for his work. He also loved animals. He worked rescuing horses, greyhounds and cats

Dick was a member of the First Congregational Church in Walton where he held many offices. He was also a member of the Delaware Co. Men's Choir and a member and past president of the Walton Lions Club, Walton Masonic Lodge, and a member of Mensa. He was a big supporter of the American Red Cross and Chairman of Blood Drives and was a 27 gallon donor. He was a life member of the NRA and a founding member of HEART (Humane Education & Animal Rescue Team).

Dick is survived by his wife: Marilyn, 2 sons, Lawrence (Beth) Core, Thomas Core both of Walton, 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Steven Core, 1 sister, Rosemary Stein, Glen Ridge, NJ; brother in law, James (Cathy) Gorman, Levittown, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
