Hoffmeister
January 4, 1942 – March 2, 2014
Richard J. Hoffmeister, 72, of Walton passed away early Sunday morning at home, March 2, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on January 4, 1942 in Queens, NY, the son of the late Theodore and Martha (Hagel) Hoffmeister. On September 8, 1968 he married the former Johanna Miller in Walton. He was self-employed for many years at Quality Body Shop that was adjacent to his home. He was a longtime and faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon. Dick was also very active in the Walton F & A M # 559, Royal Arch Masons, and the Willowemoc-Downsville Chapter #304 Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as District Grand Lecturer; the Walton Kiwanis Club and the Walton Lions Club and the Walton Mountain Sportsmen's Club. Dick and Jo also operated Miller BBQ and the Pop Corn Wagon at the Delaware County Fair. Later he was a licensed teaching assistant at BOCES in both Masonville and Norwich.
Dick will be most remembered as an animated storyteller who enjoyed visiting with his many friends and acquaintances. With a dry sense of humor, he could always make people laugh and feel comfortable.
Dick is survived by his loving family, his wife, Jo, one daughter: Angela and Jeff Gillette of Webster, MA and one son: Matt Hoffmeister and Kate Kochersberger, of Walton, his grandchildren, Aubrie, Jayden, Kira, and Benjamin; a brother Theodore Hoffmeister of Warsaw, VA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where a Masonic Ritual will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday morning, March 6 at the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East Street, Walton, NY with Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays officiating.
