Obituary

Richard Hoyt, age 80 of Walton NY, died Monday evening, December 11, 2006 in the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

Mr. Hoyt was born in Walton on October 3, 1926, the son of the late Walter S. and Edith Pierson Hoyt. Dick married the former Frances Newkerk on May 25, 1951 at Long Beach California. He served his country in the Army during WW-II. Dick was active in many civic organizations. He was a member and Past Commander of the Walton VFW Post #270, Vice Commander of the Walton American Legion, member of the Walton Congregational Church, serving as Deacon, trustee, and on its Prudential Committee. He was also a Cub Scout Den Master, and for many years was the Director of the Veterans Club Cemetery Committee taking care of the veterans graves in the Walton Area. He was also probably best known as "Sag-a-long in the Saddle" for many years on radio station WDLA. He was also an Insurance Agent, employed by North American Insurance Co.

He is survived by his wife: Frances, Delhi, a daughter, Patricia and her husband, Jerald Ver Nooy, Walton; a son, Dan Hoyt and his fiancee' Jane Caron, Texas, 5 grandchildren, Deana and Bob Stanard, Michael and Julie Schriber, Jackie and Margo Caron, and Nicolette Hoyt, 3 great grandchildren, Emily, Aidan, and Robert; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, George and Walter Hoyt.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 3:00 pm in the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in Dick's memory may be made to First Congregational Church Restoration Fund, 4 Mead St., Walton, NY 13856.
