Obituary

Richard J. Moffett Jr., 55, of Binghamton, passed away Wednesday morning at

home after a long illness. Rich was born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., the son

of Richard J. and Caroline Wilson Moffett Sr. He married the former

Claudine Scherer August 4, 1974 at Jamaica Queens. He served his country

in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1974. Rich was a Paramedic

for many years, last employed by Hudson Valley Ambulance, Liberty. He was a

member of the Johnson City Lions Club, and a former member of the Walton

EMS. He loved all kinds of animals, and as Chairman of the Board of Docents,

Educator and Volunteer at Ross Park Zoo of Binghamton, he took animals to

schools, senior centers and other places where people were interested in

seeing animals from the zoo. He was also a gifted photographer, where he had

many photographs hanging in his home and often gave to people as gifts. He

worked at a horse farm in Delhi, cleaning the barn and feeding the horses so

that his children could learn to ride horses and be exposed to all that a

farm had to offer. But most of all he was a loving husband, father,

grandfather, son, and brother. He is survived by his wife Claudine Moffett,

at home; two daughters, Elisa and Brian Serfass, Vestal; Christine Moffett

and Christopher Hanna, Winchester, Va.; one son, Richard J Moffett III,

Oneonta, N.Y.; three sisters, Carolyn Aiello, Florida; Joan Schmidt, and

Kathleen Boyd, both of Walton; one brother, John Moffett of Walton; two

grandchildren, Kaylee Hanna; and Nathaniel Serfass; and several nieces,

nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Richard J. Moffett

Sr. in June 1975.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Ross Park Educational Center

Binghamton, on February 21, 2004 at 3:00 PM. There will be calling hours from 1:00 to 3:00PM, preceding the service. Memorial
