Richard G. Nelson, 77 a long time resident of Downsville, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 23, 2007 in the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, after a long illness.

Dick was born in Los Angeles, California on February 27, 1930 the son of the late Guy and Lilian (Goodman) Nelson. On April 11, 1953 he married the former Mary E. "Betty" Breen in the Corpus Christie Roman Catholic Church, Mineola, NY. She died on April 26, 2007. The first moved to Cooperstown in 1957 and Downsville in 1959. Dick was a 25 year employee of the City of New York DEP. He and Betty were active in the Boy Scouts and 4 H Golden Riders and the Delaware County Mounted Drill Team which were New York State Champions several years. They also owned and operated the Nelson Tack Shop.

Dick is survived by five sons: William G. (Janet Lee) Nelson of Eudora, AK, James R. (Nadine) Nelson of Shinhopple, NY, Timothy W. Nelson, Stanley R. (Rosemary) Nelson,and David E. Nelson, all of Downsville, 4 grandchildren, Billy, Becky, Cole & Shannon, and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday morning, October 27, 2007 at the Church of the Holy Family, Maple Ave. Downsville with the Rev Stephen Morris, officiating.
