Richard F. Schenk, 87 of Walton, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004 in the Delaware Valley Hospital, after a short illness.
Dick was born on September 30, 1917 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Frederick and Emma Hoffman Schenk. He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering, class of 1939. He was employed at Johnson & Johnson as an engineer, retiring in 1973. On September 6, 1941 he married Edith May Gerndt, She died August 15, 1986.
When Dick retired, he and Edith bought a farm and moved to Walton, where they raised beef cattle. Dick also loved to do carpentry and built an addition on his house, and rebuilt his barn. He also loved to work on his three tractors. Dick enjoyed genealogy, tracing the Schenk Family back to Germany to the 17th century.
Dick is survived by 2 daughters, Linda and her husband Paul Crosby, of Newton, New Jersey, Ann Schenk, of Lansing, NY; 7 grandchildren, Kimberly Enowitch, Jacqueline Crosby, Kathleen Seward, Paul and Richard Crosby, Michelle, and Cheryl Schenk, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Alva Guren, of Elizaville, NY and Jane Wright, of Alabama, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith, a son, Eric Schenk, 2 sisters, Doris,Waldrip, and Bernice Lippe.
Friends and family are invited to call Tuesday from 7 - 9 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St, Walton, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm, with the Rev. Suzanne Cole, officiating,
Burial will be at in the Walton Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in Dick's memory may be made to either Catskill Area Hospice, or
The Franziska Racker Center. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available by contacting the funeral home.
