Richard C. Scofield, Sr., 71, entered eternal rest after a long illness. Richard was born August 29, 1941 in Walton, the son of the late George and Eleanor McCullugh Scofield. On October 17 he married Gerline Prentice, his loving wife of almost 55 years, at the United Presbyterian Church in Walton.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Gerline, 2 sons; Richard Jr. and wife Barbara; Joe Scofield and special friend Loretta. 3 daughters; Cindy Buteau and husband Dan; Laurie Rivenburg and husband Fred; Julie Scofield and special friend Jim. 3 sisters; Linda and Bert, Carol and Kevin, Betty, 1 brother; Pete, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.
Richard was predeceased by four brothers, Bruce, George (Bill) Jr., Melvin, and Gary Scofield, and one sister Barbara Mullineaux.
Richard worked 42 years at Amphenol, retiring at the young age of 62. He really enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. Dick also trucked full time as well, hauling feed, coal, wood and milk for area farmers. Dick and Geri took pride in restoring their home while raising their 5 children.
After his retirement, Richard spent his days lending a helping hand to others. He took pride in his garden as well, and loved his fresh vegetables. Some of his favorite past time was watching NASCAR, and old Westerns. He loved visiting with family and friends. Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his easy smile and devotion to his family.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 11-1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. where services will be held at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Walton Cemetery.
