Richard W. Signor, 93, of Walton passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
Richard was born on July 31, 1920 the son of the late Ivan and Gertrude (Ostrum) Signor in Walton. Richard proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1945 where he received many military medals, including a Purple Heart, Silver Star, and a Bronze Star. He loved this country and was honored to have served it. On April 23, 1943 he married the former Marthena Howe.
Richard was a Lineman for NYSEG in Walton for 37 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Walton, the Walton Zoning Committee, American Legion VFW, Walton Fire Department and was 1 of the 11 founding fathers of the Oak Ridge Club. He enjoyed hunting, softball, bowling, golfing once he retired and visiting his children in Bangor, ME twice a year. He was very proud of his military background; involving himself in the Memorial Parade for 73 consecutive years. Richard was a man who lived by his word.If he looked you in the eye and shook your hand, you could consider it done.
Richard is survived by his loving family, his children, Gordon (Lois) Signor, Janice (Tony) Abbott, daughter in law, Sharon Signor, his grandchildren, Shirley and Ron McLaughlin, Sheila Scott, Daniel Signor and Gaye LaCasce, Todd and Tracey Race, Rick and Christine Race, Dalena and Tom Lamont, Heather and Fred Briggeman, and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marthena, his son, Lee Signor, and his brother Allyn Signor.
A graveside service with full militay honors will be held in Walton Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.
