Rita Walsh Monett, 102, of Farmington, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua, NY.
Rita was born on September 6, 1911 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Holt) Walsh. On May 10, 1940 she married Maurice F. Monett on Long Island, NY.
Rita was employed by the Suffolk County School District as a secretary for 20 years. She was a devote member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Walton, NY for 32 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as a Eucharistic Minister, taught religious education classes and made rosaries to send to foreign missions. She was also a member of the Lay Fraternity of St. Dominic. Rita was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed creating ceramic figurines. She was an avid reader and took pleasure in stamp collecting.
Rita is predeceased by her husband, Maurice; her sisters Regina (Donald) Vander Schuyt, Eileen (Leonard) Connelly and Harriet (James) McKeffy. She is survived by her son Maurice Michael Monett of Kissimmee, FL; her daughter Marilyn (Donald) Rimbach of Farmington, NY; grandchildren Joseph (Jennifer) Barrow, Paul (Karen) Barrow, Maureen (Roger) Davidson, Carol (John) Maddalena, Anne Rimbach, Sean Monett and Matthew Monett; great-grandchildren Michael Barrow, Ryan Barrow, Alex Barrow, Patrick Barrow, Daniel Barrow, Colin Barrow, Christopher Barrow, Emily Barrow, Joseph Maddalena and Rafe Monett. Rita is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday evening, July 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17 Benton Ave., Walton.
