Robert Anschlowar, current resident of Hamden, former resident of New Hyde Park, NY died on Wednesday, October 9th at the age of 81. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Elfriede of 54 years; sons Jeff and Kurt; daughter Lisa; daughter-in-law's Irene and Emily; grandchildren Penelope, Thomas and Georgina; sister Hedwig; brother Erich and all his relatives and friends.

Robert was born on November 11, 1937 in Gottschee, Slovenia. He and his family migrated to Austria and settled there. He came to the United States when he was 19 years old and soon thereafter served his adopted country in the U.S. Army. There he learned the trade of welding and started a steel fabrication business. He met his wife Elfriede in Ridgewood, NY and married her in 1965. They attended numerous German-American events where he was active in promoting the heritage of his homeland. He retired in 2002 and moved to Hamden. For several years he raised beef cattle with his neighbor.

Robert was a devoted father and a great provider to his family. He loved living in Hamden, hunting, working in the woods and spending time and laughing with his friends, neighbors and family. He adored his grandchildren who called him "Opa."

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend with take place on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 4-7 P.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12 at 11 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 25 Benton Avenue, Walton with the Rev. Edward J. Golding officiating. Please assemble at church. Burial will follow at Hamden Cemetery. A celebration of Robert's life will take place in Ridgewood, NY at a day and time to be announced.
