Obituary

Robert S. "Doc" Doig, DVM; 90, a long time resident of Walton, passed away Friday evening, October 1, 2010 at Delaware Valley Hospital, following a long illness.

Doc was born on October 3, 1919 in Bovina, the son of the late Robert and Katherine M. (King) Doig. He was a graduate of Delaware Academy and later, Cornell University, class of 1943, as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He proudly served his country in the US Army, as a captain, training and taking care of mules and German Shepards for the war effort. On February 15, 1946 he married the former Frances E. Robinson, at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He then opened his veterinary practice with Dr. Peter Hyler in Walton.

He also was employed by the New York State Dept. Of Agriculture & Markets, as a Vet Supervisor Meat Inspector. He was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Walton Lodge of F & AM # 559, and a founding member of the Oak Ridge Hunting Club.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Frances , one daughter: Cheryl (Ray) Sawdy of Endicott, and two sons: Richard (Mary) Doig, and Lyndon (Roz) Doig, both of Walton; grandchildren, Robert L. Jr., David & Chris, Heather, Michael, Tara, Mindy, Angie, Melissa, Gregg and Frederick, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Robert L. Doig in 1995; brothers, Clarence and Wilber, 2 sisters, Mary Haviland and Margaret Nichols.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday evening, October 4, 2010; from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton; where services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 AM with the Rev. Bert More, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery with full military honors.
