Obituary

Robert G. Galley, 93 of Walton passed away Sunday evening, March 30, 2008 in the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a long illness.

Mr. Galley was born in the town of Tompkins on June 4, 1914 the son of the late George and Susie (Storrer) Galley. He went to school in the Cleaver schoolhouse on Lower Loomis Brook. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic/Pacific/Phillippine Theatres. He returned home to work the family farm on Lower Loomis Brook until retirement. On September 21, 1946 he married the former Lorraine Whitaker. She died on April 8, 1994.

Mr Galley was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, the Trout Creek Cemetery Assn., and a former president of the Senior Citizens of Trout Creek. He loved woodworking in his shop where he would make desks, footstools, handles, paper towel holders, dice cups and many other trinkets for friends and family. He also was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, birdwatching, gardening and tinkering with all the equipment around the farm. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.

Mr Galley is survived by two daughters: Herscha (Carmen) Leon of Tampa, Florida; Janet (William) Maine of Oneonta, NY; one son, Ronald Galley of Walton,7 grandchildren, Donna Gillett, Lori Zelaznik, Lisa Gillett, Robert (Stacey) Gillett, Jennifer (Jason) Clark, Nicholas Maine, Kathryn Galley, great grandchildren, Kelly, Caitlyn, Rachel, Zachary, Haley, Peyton, Dylan, Madison, Inda, 1 brother, Thomas (Carol) Galley, Walton, sister in Law, Wahneta Galley, Walton, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and to his many friends at Countryside, where he received the best of care.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday evening, April 3, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East Street, Walton, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Ballard, officiating.
