Robert L. Telford, 83, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.
Bob was born in Walton on September 20, 1927, the son of the late Ethel (Garrick) and Ray B. Telford. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife of 57 years, Millie (Finch) Telford, sister, Jeanette Oles, brothers, James and Howard. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Salton of Windsor, NY, grandson, Garrick Salton, Apalachin, and great granddaughter, Chloe Sheridan Salton also of Apalachin, and several very special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bob grew up and lived most of his life in Walton. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Navy and served on the troop carrier USS Marlboro during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Millie and they lived in Rochester while Bob attended the Rochester Business Institute before returning to Walton. He was the Administrator of Delaware Valley Hospital for 25 years before becoming Business Manager for a construction company and then CEO of the Deposit Foundation, retiring in 1994.
Bob was one of the charter members of the Walton Emergency Squad and a 50 year member of the Walton Fire Dept. He was active in Walton Kiwanis, Deposit Rotary, and a member of the Northfield Community Church. He loved his family and many friends and enjoyed being out and about and active in the community.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton where services will be held at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Walton Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to Northfield Community Church, Walton, the Ogden Free Library, Walton, the Walton Fire Department, or Walton EMS.
