Robert K. Tompkins 80, a long time resident of Downsville, passed away early Friday morning, June 6, 2008 in the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a long illness.
Bob was born in Gregorytown, on October 18, 1927 the son of the late William and Flora (Foote) Tompkins. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked construction in the Downsville area.
Bob was a former member of the Downsville American Legion, and the O & Y hunting Club. He loved hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, building, tinkering, and telling a good joke.
Bob is survived by three daughters: Deborah (Jim) Signor of Downsville, NY, Gail Tompkins of Ellenville, Robin Tompkins of Rochester and one son: Lawrence "Butch" (Sonja) Tompkins of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Travis Signor, Jeffrey North, Jessica Gould, 2 great grand children, 3 sisters, Dorothy Graham, Jean Sprague both of Downsville, Marie Rose of Accord; 4 brothers, Casey (Betty) Tompkins of Stone Ridge, NY, William "Bunk" (Elno) Tompkins Jr., Danny Tompkins, Gerald "Skip" (Ellen) Tompkins all of Downsville, long time companion, Elvira Tompkins, Florida; several nieces nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Pete and Johnny Tompkins and a sister, Betty Thompson.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM, June 10, 2008 at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 AM.
Memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
