Roger O. Benedict, 60 a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in the N.Y. State Veterans Home, Oxford, after a long illness.

Roger was born in Walton, on August 3, 1948 the son of the late Glenn E. and Charlotte (Forester) Benedict. He was a graduate of Walton Central School, class of 1968. On April 12, 1975 Roger married the former M. Diane Constable at the First United Methodist Church of Walton. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He was employed for many years at S.J. Bailey's, Walton.

Roger was a member of the Club Royale Oasis, Walton; and an owner/member of the Carroll Hill Hunting Club.

Roger is survived by his loving family, his wife, Diane, his daughter, Joy Williams, Olney, Maryland, two sisters, Susan K. Benedict, Sandra L. Benedict both of Walton, one brother: Scott E. Benedict of Unadilla, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Lynn A. Benedict in 1996.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home. 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held on Friday afternoon at 1 PM with the Rev. Mark Del Giudice, officiating.

Interment will follow in Walton Cemetery.
