Roland A. Beers, 74, of Walton passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Delaware Valley Hospital, following a long illness.
Rollie was born on January 24, 1939 in Walton, the son of the late Raymond and Ina (Hessinger) Beers. He married the former Donna Heidt on April 16, 1966 in Montrose Pennsylvania along side Dorothy "Bunny" and Henry "Hank" Closs.
Rollie proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He was employed for many years by Breakstones and worked part-time as a Police Officer for the Walton Police Department. He left Breakstones in 1976 pursuing his life long dream of becoming a full-time Deputy Sheriff with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. He returned to Walton Police Department full-time in 1983, retiring in 1988. Rollie's public service wasn't done just yet. He became Village of Walton Justice in 1993 and held that position for fifteen years, leaving in 2008. He was a true dedicated public servant.
In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing golf and BINGO and visiting with his friends over a cup of coffee.
Rollie is survived by his loving family, his wife, Donna, his sons, William and Kristin Beers of Walton; Robert and Tonia Beers of Walton, Donald and Patrice Beers of Walton; his grandchildren, Colleen and Justin, his sister: Bernice and Tom O'Neil of Albany; his sister In Law, Alice Beers of North Tonawanda. He was predeceased by his brothers, Elwin and Raymond, and his sisters, Betty and Arletta.
Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Avenue, Walton where services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 PM with full military honors with the Rev. Larry Light, officiating.
Memorial Contributions in Rollie's memory may be made to the New Hope Communtiy Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton.
