Obituary

Rose A. Finch, 69, a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away Friday afternoon, August 5, 2011 at home, surrounded by her family.

Rose was born on November 27, 1941 in Walton, the daughter of the late Leslie and Elsie (Wolcott) Scofield. She was a graduate of Morrisville-Eaton Central School, class of 1959. She married William H.Finch on July 26, 1976 at DeLancey. He died on April 28, 2000. Rose was employed for many years at the Walton Central School, as a Teacher's Aide. Later, she worked at the Town of Walton Clerks office as deputy clerk and registrar.

Rose enjoyed trips to Turning Stone and traveling across the country, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, reading and playing scrabble with her sister, Kate. She also enjoyed visiting her grand and great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Rose will be remembered as a kind and gentle lady who always did her best helping people.

Rose is survived by her loving family, her children, Frank (Renee') Hopps, Peter Hopps, both of Walton, Laura (Glenn) Allen, North Carolina; Lucinda (Dale) Hopps, Walton, stepchildren, Patricia (Gary) MacRabie, Walton, Shirley (Jack) Clayes, New Jersey; Priscilla (Gene) Higley, Kentucky, Richard (Lynda) Finch, Walton, grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine, Jean, Ron III, Ryan, and Tracie, great-grandchildren, Nautica and Sophia, brothers, Rexford Scofield, Marcus Scofield, both of Sidney; sister, Catherine (Stanley) Beers, Sidney, sister-in-law, Linda Frank, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Scofield and sisters-in-law, Jean Scofield and Sandy Scofield.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday evening, August 8, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend St., Walton where services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 PM with the Rev. Bert More, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
