Roy H. Messmer, 83, of Downsville passed away on Saturday evening, October 24, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

Roy was born on May 26, 1932 in Hackensack, NJ the son of the late Hans and Harriet Messmer. On June 7, 1953 he married the former Doris Ooms. She predeceased him on January 11, 2010. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Roy was employed as a foreman for Hoke, Inc; a manufacturer of valve fittings in Cresskill, NJ. He was a member of the VFW Post #1 in Richfield Park, NJ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the birds at the feeders outside his window.

Roy is survived by his loving family, his children, Roy and Barbara Messmer, Jr. of Parsippany, NJ; Debbie Woeber of Aurora, CO; Sharon Podschelne of Rotonda West, FL; his grandchildren, Corie (Corrie), Josh, Ryan, Paul, his great-grandchildren, Paul, Amirah, Layana, Jackson, his special friend, Joan Ronk of Corbett, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Emily Kroncke.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
