Ruth B. Tweedie, 88 a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2009 in the Delaware Valley Hospital.

Ruth was born in Rock Rift, one of 14 brothers and sisters, on January 22, 1921 the daughter of the late Edward Charles and Edith (Goodrich) Bailey. On May 24, 1943 she married R. Sterling Tweedie. He died in 1974. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed taking care of her family. She also enjoyed crochet, stuffing and handcrafting pillows, and playing BINGO. She was also active in Delaware Valley Hospital's Carnival, in the book stall, and in the Walton Grange for many years, serving as secretary, chaplain, lady assistant, and lecturer.

Ruth is survived by 3 sons, Frank (Penny) Tweedie, Walton; Dick (Sharon) Tweedie, Morristown, NJ; Ed Tweedie, Masonville; 1 daughter, Irene (Graydon) Ballard, Sidney; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Allison, Xian, Alexzandra, Kathy, Michelle, Elizabeth, Maryann, Michelle, Tina, Eddie, Shelly, Jimmy, Megan, Nathan; 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 brother, Irving Bailey, 1 sister, Dorothy Simpson, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Tweedie was predeceased by her siblings, Edward, Edith, Blanch, Homer, Ester, Mable, Theodore, Irena, Evrett, Gertrude, Ralph, Florence and Marie; and a grandson, Matthew P.S. Tweedie in 2007.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday evening, March 13, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2PM at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton, with the Rev. Lisa Ruth Mays, officiating. Memorial contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the Walton Grange.
