Ruthe E. Scalzo, 87, of Walton formerly of Peekskill, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.

Ruthe was born on January 31, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, the daughter of the late Clifford A. and late Edna Mott Pitcher. She was married to Frank J. Scalzo. He died on February 8, 1999.

Ruthe and her husband, Frank worked for many years in their restaurant, real estate and laundry business in Peekskill. She enjoyed working and partnering with her husband, both at work and at home. She was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist, Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing hand crafts, knitting and crocheting and her visits to the Sister of Good Hope.

Ruthe is survived by her daughter, Sherry-Lee Scalzo-Lamberto of Walton; her niece and nephew, Jennifer and Mark, her special friends, Nancy Green, Lucille Courtney, Laurie Spicer and Doreen Oles plus all the rest of her church family. She was predeceased by her sister, Bette-Jane Hall.

Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 6 to 8PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Saint John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 25 Benton Avenue, Walton, NY with Rev. Edward J Golding officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery in the spring.
