Elton P. "Slim" Closs Sr. 79 of Walton, passed away Monday afternoon, August 28, 2006, in Fox Hospital, Oneonta, after a long illness.

Slim was born in Walton, on July 30, 1927 the son of the late George and Marie Wood Closs. He married the former Clarabel Gray on January 1, 1951 at Walton. He was employed as a Truck Driver for 38 years at Breakstone´s, Walton. Slim was a long time member of Plymouth Community Church, serving as Deacon since 1994. He was a member of Walton Mountain Sportsman Club, and the National Rifle Association. Slim enjoyed drinking coffee, joking with, and visiting with his many friends. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the great outdoors, and all it had to offer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clarabel, 3 sons, Elton "Paul" Closs Jr. and his significant other, Kim Aldrich, of Walton, Kenneth and Doreen Closs, of Clemington, NJ; and Jeremy and Brenda Miller, Sidney Center; 10 grandchildren, Paul III, Yoshiko, Rachel, Hillary, Morgan, Kevin, Dana, Daymon, Cortney, and Kesley, 4 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Lydia, Sebastian, and Sonja, 2 brothers, Henry and Bunny Closs, Walton; Charles and Joyce Closs, Afton; 3 sisters, Amy Corrigan, Walton, Alice Linnabury, Milford, and Delight Yeomans, Walton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Renee' Covey in 1999, and 2 brothers, Albert and George Closs.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Plymouth Community Church, Walton-Franklin Rd., Walton, with Slim's good friend, the Rev. William Robertson, officiating.
