Sonia Nieves, 63, of Brooklyn passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.

Sonia was born on February 18, 1953 in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Irene Caban and Alejandro Nieves.

Sonia was a Teacher's Assistant at PS45 in Brooklyn, where she enjoyed doing crafts with the children after school. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she enjoyed crocheting.

Sonia is survived by her loving family, her children, Diana and Brian Morgan of Florida; Charlotte(Maria) and Roy Gongora of PA; Wanda and Edward Acevedo of Downsville; Michele and Felix Galindez of GA; Ormarir Montero of FL; grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Shandi, Destiny, Trinity, Tristan, Ryder, Jeremiah, Jonas, Eddie, Anna, Kristopher, Karen, Kendall, Felix, Jacob, Daniel, Laigha, Isaiah, sisters, Alida Fussalva, Nereida Nieves, brothers, Alejandro Nieves, Hector Nieves, Edwin Nieves, great grandchildren, Sofie, Taylen, Xavier, Silas, Zinna, Abygail, Ayden, and one on the way, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters, Haydee, and Maria.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where a Prayer Service will be held at 1 PM with the Rev. Edward J. Golding, officiating. Burial will follow in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
