Ray "Stanley" Houck, 82 of Walton passed away Sunday afternoon, January 14, 2007 in Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a short illness.
Stan was born on Houck Mountain on October 9, 1924 the son of the late John D. and Nancy Wormoth Houck. He was a graduate of Downsville High School. He was employed for many years as a laborer of the New York Board of Water Supply building the dam in the reservoir.
He also was a stone mason who was noted for the work he did building many fireplaces in the area. He was a former building inspector for the Town of Colchester, former member of the Downsville Fire Dept. serving as commissioner, DVRR Snowmobile Club, Downsville Lions Club and the Plymouth Church. In his spare time he enjoyed refinishing picture frames, playing his harmonica, and kibitzing with many friends and neighbors, reminiscing of the days on the family Houck Mountain Farm in Walton and Downsville.
He is survived by 5 sons, Duane and wife, Gloria, Gerald and wife, Ruth, George and wife, Beverly, Ray Stanley Jr. and wife Pat, Darryl and wife, Vickie, I daughter Loana (Loni) Markert and husband, Charles, former wife Jessica Goetschius; 10 grand children, Duane Jr., Amanda, Gerald "JJ"; Eric, Tina, Brett, Jamie, Ryan, Renee, Jessica, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Vaughn Houck, 3 brothers, Devilo, Reginald, and John, 3 sisters, Donna, Virginia, and Rita.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday evening, January 17, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral Services will be held at the Plymouth Community Church, Franklin Rd. on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM. with the Rev. William Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville in the spring. Memorial contributions in Stan's memory may be made to the Downsville Lions Club.
