Obituary

Steve Musnicky, 82, of Downsville, passed away in his sleep of natural causes on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Steve was born on June 15, 1932, the son of Joseph and Anastashia (Buefflo) Musnicky of Greenpoint, Borough of Brooklyn, NY. Steve was a Korean War Veteran, having proudly served our country from 1949 to 1952 with the 19th Infantry, 24th Division, 1st Battalion in Bravo Company.

Called by his nickname "Moose" by his friends, Steve had a lifetime passion for sports, especially his beloved NY Giants and Yankees. He briefly played minor league professional baseball in Georgia in the Alabama-Florida league. At age 75, Steve won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals for swimming at the Senior Olympics at Lake Placid, NY.

Steve began his career as a butcher for Swift and Company in Brooklyn, NY. He later accepted a position as an Inspector for the US Dept. of Agriculture and US Customs at JFK International Airport. He retired from the government after 33 years and moved to Downsville 20 years ago. Steve was a member of the Disabled American Veterans as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grand children. His passion was his golden retriever and cocker spaniel.

Steve is survived by his sons Steven Musnicky, Jr., of Van Nuys CA, and Dwayne Dickerson of Downsville; grandchildren Samantha Hernandez of Escondido, CA, Amber Musnicky of New Berlin, NY, and Ellen Musnicky of Knoxville, TN; great grandchildren Alyssa and Xavier. He was predeceased by his brother Walter Musnicky; his sisters, Nina Musnicky, Olga Ciechalski, and Lydia Musnicky.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours. A private burial ceremony will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in honor of Steve's life may be made to Fleet Street, a non-profit organization which provides bicycles free of charge to underprivileged children and veterans, two groups that Steve felt very strongly about.
