Obituary

Thelma E. Burlingame, 77, of Downsville, passed away Sunday morning, January 14, 2018 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home following a long illness. Thelma was born on October 11, 1940 in the Town Of Tompkins, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Alma (Rickard) Jaycox. She married Charlie Burlingame on December 30, 1988 at the Downsville Alliance Church. He died on April 5, 2008. Thelma was employed at the Roscoe Nursing Home in food service. She also worked as a bus driver at Downsville Central School. Over the years, Thelma was a Girl Scout leader, a youth group leader at her church and a Vacation Bible School teacher. She loved spending time with her family and volunteering for her community. Thelma is survived by her loving family, her daughters, Veronica Jennings Robinson, Downsville; Roxann Jennings, Utica; step-children, Tom Burlingame, Bev and Jim Shields, their children, Paula and Steve Brown, Cherie and Mark Pierce, Jonathan and Becky Shields, sisters, Lena Parks, Irma Merrill and Fern Utter, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Blake Jennings Jr., brothers, Lawrence and Clarence Jaycox. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 11 am to 1 PM at the Downsville Alliance Church, Main St., Downsville, where services will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Ed Lowell, officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1PM at Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, NY. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. Memorial contributions in Thelma's memory may be made to the Downsville Alliance Church, Downsville, NY 13755.
