Timothy D. Byington,67, a life long area resident of Downsville passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was known as "Gramps to everyone".
Tim was born on March 19, 1948 at the Old Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, the son of the late Donald W. and Marion A. (Carey) Byington. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy as a Seabee from 1967 to 1970. On September 2, 2001 he married the former Sherrie Nead in Downsville. They have been together for 35 years.
Tim worked as a Carpenter for years and was also employed by James and Sally Crawford of Walton as a Caretaker. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren playing sports and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed deer hunting, wood working, and his Australian Shepherds, He was the first person on record in the Downsville Central School in the1000 point club and he is in the Section 4 Hall of Fame for Sports.
Tim is survived by his loving family, best friend and wife, Sherrie (Nead)Byington, daughters, Jody (Scott) Reed, Allison (Taylor) Gill, Hope (Gordon) Townsend, Rebecca (Dom Amato) Byington all of Downsville, NY; sisters, Beverly (John) Biggar of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon DeVaney of Liverpool, NY, Barbara Byington of NJ and one brother: Donald G (Jeanette) Byington of NJ; grandchildren, Brett (Brenna) Reed; Rebecca Reed; Harley Frey; Dayton Frey, Tanner Gill; Chance Byington; Kaileen Townsend all of Downsville, NY; Paige Gill of Honesdale, PA; great grandchildren, Rylan Reed and Brandon Reed of Downsville, NY, two very special sisters in law, Darlene Beers of Roscoe, and Muriel Cypert of Neversink, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and his grandson, Brandon Michael Reed.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11AM at the Colchester Community Church, 15151 State Highway 30, Downsville, with Rev. Dale Ashby, officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1PM at Paige Cemetery, Downsville with full military honors.
Memorial Contributions in Tim's memory may be made to Brandon Reed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Downsville Central School, Downsville, New York 13755.
